Dr. Jake Barnett grew up on a farm in Chattanooga. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan University on a baseball scholarship and received his bachelor’s degree in biology in 2010. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from their veterinary program in 2015. After veterinary school, he practiced general medicine here in Chattanooga and later in Sacramento, California. Eventually, however, he returned home and began working emergency with VCSG in 2018. During this time, Dr. Barnett realized his passion for surgery and pursued both a surgery internship and residency that was completed with VCSG in 2025. His professional interest includes both soft tissue and orthopedics and Dr. Barnett has decided to stay here in Chattanooga with VCSG to start his surgery career.
In his free time, Dr. Barnett enjoys kayaking, hunting, fly fishing, mountain biking, and hiking. He is also scuba-certified and passionate about all animals, both on land and in the sea. He shares his home with his two dogs: a dachshund mix named Goose, and a mixed breed named Smush.
